The Harold H. and Gertrude C. Sturner Memorial Fund
“Both my parents gave freely and willingly to many activities in Waseca, but most important, raised me and gave me a lifelong appreciation of Waseca, its people and its values.” William Q. Sturner, M.D.
Dr. William Q. Sturner has generously demonstrated his appreciation of Waseca by establishing a named fund through the Waseca Area Foundation as a long lasting commemoration of his parents. The donation itself will remain untouched – earnings will be granted back to the community through Dr. Sturner’s gift.
Gertrude (Brozik) Sturner’s family owned and operated the Brozik Meat Market, a fixture on South State Street in downtown Waseca for many years. She taught music in South Dakota prior to meeting and marrying Harold Sturner. She occasionally played piano in the local theater showing silent movies
Harold Sturner graduated from St. Paul Central High School and pitched in the state high school baseball championship. This experience and his style earned him the nicknames “Lefty” and “Hook”, names which stayed with him throughout his life. He served as Waseca County Attorney in the 1920’s and pitched baseball or the Waseca town team.
“I believe a long lasting commemoration of my parents, especially to do with the betterment of Waseca and its people, is a fitting tribute for their names and their lives.” William Q. Sturner, M.D.
