Class of 1970 Fund – A gift for the new millennium.

“Waseca was not my birthplace, I moved to Waseca when I was in 9th grade but to me Waseca is home. The quality of the people and the enriching programs in the community helped me to become the person that I am today. I would like to be able to give something back to the community.” Kevin Berg

“Waseca was a great place to grow up and I’m very excited about the Class of 70 joining together again at the start of the new millennium to make a lasting gift to the bright future of Waseca.” Carol Collins

“I feel fortunate having grown-up in Waseca. Support resources provided a strong foundation for growth and development. Preceding generations of Wasecans made sacrifices for my generation. It’s time for the Class of 1969 to secure the future for generations to come.” Gary Eustice

“I’ve always been proud to be able to say to people I meet, I’m from Waseca. We have an opportunity to help others to be able to communicate the same message for years to come. Your gift expresses your gratitude for the past and your hope for the future of Waseca. David K. Eaton

“What a great way to celebrate the new millennium – by appreciating our past and providing for the future. Let’s all (Class of ‘70) join in at what ever level we can to win the challenge of participation and total dollars.” Scott Martin

This isn’t just another Y2k story. This story leaves behind fears of technology glitches, and ideas for where to celebrate the New Year’s Eve of a lifetime. This story is about how a few people decided to use a unique milestone occurring in our lifetime to provide a lasting gift for future generations of Wasecans.

The Class of ’70 is anticipating its own milestone – the 30 year anniversary of their graduation. Members of that class were discussing how rare and significant the millennium change is and did not want to see it come and go without acknowledging the event in a lasting way. One had read about the Waseca Area Foundation when visiting a parent in Waseca. The small group contacted WAF is see if it would be possible to establish a fund - as a gift from the Class of ’70 - that would continue to provide grants to the community for generations to come. Their enthusiasm for the project led them to challenge the classes around them (Class of ’69 and Class of ’71) to do the same. The challenge is two-fold. 1. To raise enough money to establish a Class Fund ($10,000 minimum). 2. To have 100% participation by class members. The challenge includes a competitive factor. Tallies of numbers of dollars and % of class participation will be recorded and announced periodically. At the end of 2000 the Class winning the competition will be recognized. Of course, as we all know, the real winners are future generations of Wasecans. Thank you Classes of ’69, ’70, and ’71 for choosing the Waseca Area Foundation as your way to leave a mark on the new millennium.
